Review RunKeeper Free

I like to run. I haven't been running for very long (less than a year). I run about 2-3 miles every time I run. I’m not the fastest or best runner in the world, but I’m not the worst. I like to vary my routes, so I don’t get bored. Some days, I also like to run hills. Many times, I just run for time. I’ll drop my daughter off at dance or Girl Scouts, and then run for 30 minutes. I set my watch, and when I’m done running I always have to go back and drive the course to see how far I ran.

I tested out RunKeeper Free in various locations. I ran in the city, in the country and I also tested it on a track, which I know has quarter mile laps.

RunKeeper Free keeps track of time, distance, and it keeps track of your pace. It also keeps track of calories burned. The distance seemed very accurate, especially on the track. I can also listen to music, while it is working away. It also keeps track of your workouts, so you can track your progress over time.

It is also incredibly easy. You press the start button, and enter which kind of activity you are doing.

Has this app changed my life? I’d have to say yes. Five stars! No more wasting time driving my route after running. I’m saving gas and time. Plus, I believe my running time will improve, especially since I can see my pace!

Less than a week...

I've had my iPhone 4 less than a week. The last phone I had was a Blackberry, but I didn't have the data package. For over two years, it pretty much served the purpose of being a phone. I kept my contacts updated and I would use the calendar only when I had something very important that I didn't want to forget. I'm not anti-technology, just cheap. I didn't see the point in paying for a data package, when I had the internet at home.

My AT&T contract expired in early 2010, and I had been researching smartphones for months and months. I was convinced the iPhone was the smartphone for me. Then Apple announced they were coming out with the iPhone 4, so I waited patiently until they became available. An hour after walking into the AT&T store on Tuesday, June 29th, I left with my iPhone. I also walked out of the store $214 poorer.

There are somethings you must know about me. I'm an organizational junkie and I love to exercise. I enjoy taking pictures and scrapbooking. I am also VERY thrifty (if you hadn't noticed)!

I started looking at all the apps in the iTunes story and couldn't believe everything they offered! I know, I'm behind the times. I could spend hours trying to figure out which apps were best!

My goal is to see if my iPhone can change my life. I'll be reviewing apps to see which ones are life changing and which ones are a waste of time. I'm going to try and stick with free apps or apps that are 99 cents. Although, I've already spotted a few in the $3.99-$6.99 range, but I'm holding off on buying them for now!

These are the apps I've downloaded so far, with reviews soon to come:

Change Your Life

What does this mean exactly?

Change is defined as: make different; cause a transformation

This definition is kind of abstract. What if the iPhone saves me five minutes a day, would that be considered a change? What if the iPhone saves me $100 a year, will that be a change? Right now since I had to add a data plan it is actually costing me an extra $180! Perhaps it needs to save me over $200 a year, which would be a net change of $20.

Since this is not a science experiment, but rather a social experiment, I’ll just document before and after differences of the various functions and apps I use. I’m skeptical, it’s just a smartphone…how much could a phone really change your life?

Safari

My daughter cannot have gluten (wheat, oats, barley and rye). This has been a life-long issue, so we always are prepared.

This weekend, at a 4th of July party, we brought her food, just in case there wasn’t anything she could eat at the party. This is nothing new to us. She went to get a drink out of the cooler, and they had Shasta cans of soda pop. Usually we stick with Sprite, Sierra Mist or 7-Up. These are all gluten free. She NEVER tries any foods unless we know they are gluten free. I went to get her a juice box we had brought, when I remembered my phone was in my purse.

I Googled “Shasta Gluten Free." Quickly, my search brought me to Shasta’s website, where I was able to confirm that all Shasta soft drinks are gluten free! How cool is this? Now when we are out, I’ll have an instant gluten-free reference center at my service. Does this change my life? It sure makes going out to eat with my daughter quite a bit easier. I’m impressed!
